Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visual recognition support apparatus that allows an optical device, regardless of whether the optical device is held in hand for observation or fixed, to output an azimuth of a target of observation by following a dynamic change and grasp the azimuth without being affected by an error due to accumulation. SOLUTION: The visual recognition support device includes: an optical device 50 for observing a surrounding environment; a device azimuth detector 52a for detecting a device azimuth of the optical device 50; resetter 51a and 51b for resetting the device azimuth; basic azimuth information acquirer 13a for acquiring basic azimuth information on the optical device 50 when resetting by the resetter 51a and 51b; azimuth calculator 23 for calculating an azimuth of a target of observation by the optical device 50 on the basis of the device azimuth and the basic azimuth information; and output unit 33d for output of at least the azimuth thus calculated, wherein the device azimuth for use in calculation of the azimuth is a device azimuth detected after resetting by the resetter 51b.
