Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ink composition for paper containers that has a solvent composition containing a volatile organic compound as little as possible or not containing the compound at all, has excellent printing effects and is suitable for obtaining printed matter having excellent quality when gravure printing is done on various printing papers. SOLUTION: The aqueous ink composition for paper container comprises an acrylic emulsion having a core/shell structure composed of a shell containing 1-6 wt.% of a polyethylene glycol (meth)acrylate (a), 2-8 wt.% of (meth)acrylic acid (b) and 25-70 wt.% of (meth) acrylate (c) copolymerizable with the components (a) and (b) and a core containing 15-40 wt.% of styrene (d) and 10-30 wt.% of a (meth) acrylate (e) having a glass transition point of -50 to -70°C (the total of the components (a)-(e) is 100 wt.%) in which M and N are in the range represented by formula (1): 0.3<M/N<2 when M is wt.% of the component (a) and N is wt.% of the component (b), a pigment and a solvent.
