Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable clothes dryer and a washing and drying machine, wherein even if a heavy heat pump is provided in an upper space inside a housing, such fixing members as screws and the like used for fixing the heat pump device have no risk of being damaged. SOLUTION: The clothes dryer includes: an outer vessel supported in a housing; a bottomed cylindrical drum rotatably installed in the outer vessel, for accommodating clothes to be dried therein; a compressor 31 provided in a space above the outer vessel in the housing, for compressing refrigerant. The clothes dryer is also provided with: a heat pump device 30 for drying the clothes in the drum; and a first support member 61 provided in the vicinity of the compressor 31, for fixing the heat pump device 30 by means of the fixing members, and supporting the heap pump device from below.
