Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-acid battery hardly causing sulfation due to repetition of insufficient charging. SOLUTION: A lead-acid battery includes a positive electrode plate holding a positive electrode active material and a negative electrode plate holding a negative electrode active material. In the lead-acid battery, a content of lead sulfate contained in the positive electrode active material is set to be in a range of 3-11 mass%, and a content of lead sulfate contained in the negative electrode active material is set to be in a range of 2-6 mass%. The positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate are arranged along in the vertical direction, and a collector is provided in each upper end part of the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode, respectively. When each part equally divided into three in the vertical direction in the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode, respectively, is designated as an upper part, a center part and a lower part, in the order from the top, the content of the lead sulfate contained in the positive electrode active material held in the lower part of the positive electrode plate is three times or less of the content contained in the positive electrode active material held in the upper part of the positive electrode plate, and the content of the lead sulfate contained in the negative electrode active material held in the lower part of the negative electrode plate is nine times or less of the content of the lead sulfate contained in the negative electrode active material held in the upper part of the negative electrode plate.
