Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant optical cable that can be installed with an electric cable and includes a moisture-proof layer capable of being non-halogenated. SOLUTION: In this flame retardant optical cable, the outer periphery of an assembly core 2 storing a plurality of optical fibers is covered with the moisture-proof layer 3, and its outside is covered with a sheath 4 made of flame retardant polyethylene. When the assembly core is pulled out of the inside of the moisture-proof layer 3 to form a tube state consisting of the moisture-proof layer 3 and the sheath 4, and then they are put into a water tank of 40°C, the measured moisture permeability is 0.15 g/m2-day in the tube state. The moisture-proof layer 3 is made of non-conductive and non-halogenated material. The moisture-proof layer 3 can be formed by winding of a plastic film or winding of a plastic film coated with a moisture-proof material. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
