Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicine effective for treating Chagas' disease. SOLUTION: There is provided a medicine for treating Chagas' disease, comprising cubebin or a semisynthetic derivative thereof. Compounds such as cubebin, methylpluviatolide, o-acetyl cubebin, o-methyl cubebin, o-dimethylethylamine cubebin, hinokinin and 6, 6'-dinitrohinokinin are listed. These are provided by extraction from leaves of Zanthoxylum naranjillo or Piper cubeba and purification, and give higher activity by at least five times than those recognized on gentiana violet and other compounds conventionally used for blood treatment and prevention of Chagas' disease.
