PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to be used in a cooling zone of a downflow catalytic reactor, easy to mount, of extremely simple and compact design with a relatively small size. SOLUTION: The device in the cooling zone 11 of a downflow catalytic reactor 1 includes a lower side flat tray 18 which is attached to an inner wall 20 horizontally and in parallel therewith and an upper side flat tray 17 which is disposed above the lower side flat tray 18. The upper flat tray 17 is perforated; the device further includes distribution tubes 19 serving as connection elements of the lower side flat tray 18 with the upper side flat tray 17 and collecting a mixture of liquid and gas and distributing. The distribution tube 19 is extended from a specific height above the upper side flat tray 17 to terminate at under the lower side flat tray 18 at a specific distance from the above of the lower stationary catalyst bed.
