Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device for illumination of inexpensive structure, providing a sufficient service life-showing period of the lighting device, and to provide a luminaire using the same. SOLUTION: The lighting device includes: a resonance circuit 4 including a capacitor parallel circuit 4a formed by connecting resonance capacitors C1 and C2 each having a different capacity in parallel with each other and an inductor L; and a high-frequency power source 3 for supplying high-frequency power to an electrode-less discharge lamp 6 through the resonance circuit 4. As the resonance capacitor C2 smaller in capacity than the resonance capacitor C1, a capacitor shorter in the accumulated operating time till when reduction of capacity starts in comparison with the resonance capacitors C1 and C3 structuring the resonance circuit 4 is used.
