Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of preventing falling of an original from an image reader body and breakage of a large-sized original while suppressing an increase in the cost of the image reader accompanied with an increase in the number of parts. SOLUTION: The image reader includes: the image reader body 3 for reading the image of the original; an original cover member provided to be freely opened/closed with an opening/closing fulcrum as a center on the upper surface of the image reader body 3, and pressing the original; a low surface part 18 provided to the opening/closing fulcrum side on the upper surface of the image reader body, and set to be lower in surface height than the upper surface of the image reader body; and a protrusion part 20 for preventing falling of an original provided on the low surface part 18 and preventing the original from falling from the upper surface of the image reader body 3.
