Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable transmission capable of combining improvement of the fuel efficiency and reduction of shift shock. SOLUTION: The continuously variable transmission includes a variator (20) capable of continuously modifying the speed ratio, a subtransmission mechanism (30) equipped with a first shift stage as a shift stage for advancing and a second shift stage with its gear ratio smaller than the first shift stage, and a shift control part for modifying the speed ratio of the variator (20) and the shift stages of the subtransmission mechanism (30) and changing a through gear ratio which is the whole speed ratio of the variator (20) and the subtransmission mechanism (30) based on a driving condition of a vehicle. The shift control part (12) includes an upshift means for upshifting the subtransmission mechanism (30) from the first shift stage to the second shift stage when the driving condition of the vehicle is determined to be a steady condition.
