Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the accuracy of controlling the prevention of the slip of a free guide roll while a web is conveyed. SOLUTION: Parameters such as tension, conveying speed, acceleration, peripheral velocity and angular acceleration of a roll, and so forth which change the value of a slip determination torque M during the conveyance of the web by the free guide roll having no drive mechanism are used as factors to be controlled. The values of the factors to be controlled are set, it is determined whether the actual values match predicted values or not while the web is conveyed under slip prevention, and the correction coefficient thereof is taken into consideration.
