Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating contaminated soil by which, when a biomass material mainly composed of leaves and stems of herbaceous plants is mixed in contaminated soil as a raw composting material so that the temperature of the contaminated soil is raised by compostization and decontaminated, while the germination of seeds contained in the biomass material is restrained, and the performance of the temperature rise by the compostization is further improved by the biomass material.SOLUTION: The biomass material mainly composed of leaves and stems of the herbaceous plants is pulverized and seeds are removed physically from the biomass material so that a reactive surface area of the biomass material is increased dramatically by the pulverization and the performance of the temperature rise by the compostization per unit time of the biomass material is improved.
