Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accommodate variations of temperature-optimal value characteristics which vary for individual optical pickups and time lapse, and to achieve optimal temperature compensation, in a case of performing temperature compensation for a characteristics varying temperature-dependent adjustment value that is an adjustment item, such as a spherical aberration correction value, a focus bias and a tilt, and varies in an optimal point depending on a temperature.SOLUTION: An operation of adjusting the optimal point on a start-up operation based on an actual measurement evaluating value is performed, and the optimal point is searched based on the actual measurement-evaluating value at spindown time. On the start-up operation and at the spindown time, the temperatures at those moments are measured. Further, a temperature characteristics compensation-computing coefficient is calculated based on information of the optimal point and the temperature on the start-up operation, and information of the optimal point and the temperature at the spindown time. Thus, the temperature characteristics compensation-computing coefficient representing the tilt in which the actual temperature-optimal value characteristics at every individual and at that moment are reflected is acquired with respect to the temperature-optimal value characteristics that vary for the individual optical pickups and time lapse.
