Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chromatic aberration expansion optical system for easily generating a desired axial chromatic aberration at low cost. SOLUTION: The chromatic aberration expansion optical system 200 includes a diffractive optical element GD having a diffractive optical joint surface D obtained by joining two diffractive element components G1 and G2 composed of different optical materials, with a diffraction grating groove formed therein. The chromatic aberration expansion optical system 200 is added to the basic optical system 100 after aberration correction to expand only the axial chromatic aberration while substantially maintaining the optical performance except the axial chromatic aberration of the basic optical system 100.
