PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve convenience of a steam cooker for cooking an object to be cooked by steam. SOLUTION: The steam cooker comprises a heating chamber 20 for storing the object 90 to be cooked, a removable water tank 30, a steam generator 40 having a housing 41 supplied with water from the water tank 30 for heating the water in the housing 41 by a steam generating heater 42 and supplying the steam to the heating chamber 20, a hardness detection part 36 having a plurality of electrodes 30a-30c immersed in the water tank 30 or a water storage part 31 connected to the water tank 30 for detecting hardness of the water in the water tank 30 by a resistance value among the electrodes 30a-30c, and an informing part 4 for informing a washing time of the steam generator 40. When the high hardness of the water in the water tank 30 is detected by the hardness detection part 36, the washing period of the steam generator 40 is made to be shorter than that when the hardness is low.
