Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make automatic stop of an engine 10 through an idle stop control against the driver's intension during the deceleration shift-down operation. SOLUTION: The operations from stamping a clutch pedal 26 being started and the shift position is shifted from driving into the non-drive condition are regarded as the first operation, while the operations from completion of the first operation and the shift position is shifted from the non-driving into another driving condition with a greater gear ratio than the driving condition are regarded as the second operation, and the operation from completion of the second operation to the clutch engagement are regarded as the third manipulation. The process of automatic stop of the engine 10 takes place on the conditions that the clutch is disengaged and the brakes are applied. However the automatic stopping process is prohibited in case the first operation is completed within the first shift-down determining time T1, or the second operation is completed within the second shift-down determining time, or in case the third operation is completed within the third shift-down determining time T3.
