Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Mg-alloy-plated steel material acquiring improved corrosion resistance by having a plated layer of an Mg alloy and an anodic oxide film provided thereon, and to provide a method for manufacturing the Mg-alloy-plated steel material. SOLUTION: The Mg-alloy-plated steel material superior in corrosion resistance has the plated layer of the Mg alloy with a thickness of 30 μm or less, which includes 10-70 mass% in total of at least one alloying element of Zn and Al, and the balance Mg, on the surface of the steel material, and further 0.3 g/m2or more of the anodic oxide film formed on the plated layer of the Mg alloy. The method for manufacturing the Mg-alloy-plated steel material includes: forming the plated layer of the Mg alloy on the steel material with a hot-dip plating technique; then immediately cooling the resultant steel material to room temperature with a mist cooling or water cooling method; and anodizing the plated layer.
