Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fatty acid polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether in which the addition molar distribution of an alkylene oxide is narrow, and the yield of a polyalkylene glycol as a by-product can be reduced. SOLUTION: The method for producing the fatty acid polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether includes a process for addition-reacting a fatty acid ester with an alkylene oxide in the presence of a calcined alumina-magnesia co-oxide catalyst in the coexistence of a base substance selected from alkali metal carbonates, silicates and carboxylates and organic amines having a molecular weight of <1,000 and quaternary salts thereof.
