Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that contact between a slider and a disk cannot be detected in a magnetic disk apparatus due to small vibration of the slider generated when a contact occurs. SOLUTION: A slider 13 is finely vibrated in a slider flying height direction and/or in an off-track direction to induce resonance of a head gimbal assembly 27. In this state, a contact between the slider 13 and a magnetic disk 2 is detected, to reliably detect a contact between the slider 13 and a lubricant layer 31 applied to a surface of the magnetic disk 2, with high sensitivity. Contact can be detected before start of a solid contact between the slider 13 and the magnetic disk 2, and a vibration in the off-track direction is detected. Therefore, the contact between the slider 13 and the magnetic disk 2 can be detected with high accuracy without impairing the reliability of head-disk interface. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
