Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition control device of a general-purpose internal combustion engine, that prevents shortening of an ignition plug life due to waste firing, while simplifying and reducing in size of the device. SOLUTION: The ignition control device of the general-purpose internal combustion engine controls an ignition based on an ignition signal generated in two strokes of four cycles, compression stroke and exhaust stroke. An average engine speed for a predetermined period of time is calculated (S104), and the ignition is controlled so that the ignition based on the generated ignition signal is suspended for at least one time (S108). The calculated average engine speed is compared with a post-suspended engine speed detected after the ignition is suspended at least one time, and the generated ignition signal is determined to be generated in the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke (from S110 to S118). The ignition signal which is determined to be generated in the compression stroke is selected from the generated ignition signals, and the ignition is controlled based on the selected ignition signal.
