Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve electron emission efficiency by efficiently impressing field intensity on an electron emission layer of an MIM type electron emission element. SOLUTION: The electron emission element includes a first conductive member and a second conductive member formed so as to face each other and emitting electron as a voltage is impressed between the conductive members. Between the conductive members, metal fine particles are provided coated with a first dielectric member and a second dielectric member, with a surface roughness in the first conductive member set at 0.05 (μm) or more and 0.4 (μm) or less in a center line average roughness (Ra).
