Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonization furnace capable of completing the carbonization in a short time by a high combustion efficiency even if using materials having a small size or having an inferior thermal conductivity as a carbonization material, capable of producing a high quality carbonized material without having uneven firing by a uniform carbonization progression in the furnace as a whole, being structurally simple and capable of obtaining a high thermal efficiency. SOLUTION: This carbonization furnace is provided by equipping a central part heat radiation tube 5 installed as standing at the central part of a furnace body 1 and having an exhaust gas-introducing hole 7 and a peripheral part hollow heat radiation plate 9 crossing by extending in the radial direction of the furnace body 1 and communicating with the central part heat radiation tube 5, when the carbonizing material T charged in the furnace body 1 is carbonized by spontaneous combustion in an oxygen depleted condition, introducing the generated combustion gas G to the inside of the central part heat radiation tube 5 from the exhaust gas-introducing hole 7, elevating the gas in the gas passage 27, also elevating the part of the combustion gas G from the gas passage 14 of the peripheral part hollow heat radiation plate 9 and in the process of elevation, heating the carbonization material T in the furnace body 1 by the heat radiation form the central part heat radiation tube 5 and peripheral part hollow heat radiation plate 9 heated as red-hot by the combustion gas G.
