Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer in which a safety device functions even when abnormality occurs in a sensor detecting the abnormal operation of a mechanism for scanning. SOLUTION: A scanning means abnormal operation detecting means detecting the operation abnormality of a scanning means performing scanning for recording on a recording medium is provided with a failure detecting means detecting the failures of a scanning means operation detecting means, based on a print head standby signal and outputting a scanning means operation detector failure signal, so that a radiation oscillator interruption means interrupts the oscillation of radiation. Thus, even when the scanning means operation detecting means has failures, the oscillation of the radiation is interrupted to reduce a possibility of damaging the recording medium.
