PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method capable of improving the convenience of a user by sharing information when setting the same mail address in a plurality of devices in the case where a method of sharing the reproduction state, such as how far the user has viewed a video, is required when browsing contents of an image sharing site by a plurality of devices. SOLUTION: In a network environment in which a common mail address is used in a plurality of devices, that is, a device (1) and a device (2), there are provided a processing part 201 at mail reception, a processing part 209 at mail transmission, and a reproduction state updating part 207. The processing part 209 at mail transmission transmits a mail to which information about the reproduction state is attached to a shared mail address. Upon receipt of a mail, a mail originator identifying part 204 in the processing part at mail reception 201 detects the mail destined to the shared mail address. Based on the contents of the mail, the reproduction state updating part 207 updates the reproduction state and performs reproduction control of the contents including adding an icon to a video in accordance with the most recent reproduction state.
