Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic photoelectric conversion element which absorbs visible light and light having a longer wavelength than the visible light, and is excellent in durability. SOLUTION: The organic photoelectric conversion element has a photoelectric conversion layer between two electrodes at least one of which is translucent. A naphthalene derivative and metal salt are subjected to reaction for five hours in a heating reflux state in an alcohol solution of sodium alcoholate prepared from metal sodium and high-boiling-point alcohol in the presence of ammonium molybdate.
