Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress repeated execution of automatic stopping and automatic restarting of an engine. SOLUTION: An ECU 40 automatically stops the engine 10 when a vehicle is decelerating and a prescribed stopping condition is satisfied during operation of the engine 10, and automatically restarts the engine 10 before stopping of the vehicle and when a prescribed restarting condition is satisfied during the automatic stopping of the engine 10. The ECU 40 sets a vehicle speed determination value for allowing the next automatic stop of the engine after restarting of the engine 10 based on the restarting vehicle speed detected when the prescribed restarting condition is satisfied. Further, the ECU 40 permits the next automatic stop of the engine when the vehicle speed detected after the restart of the engine 10 is the vehicle speed determination value or higher.
