Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform suitable dimming processing for an image acquired by an endoscope. SOLUTION: An endoscope system 10 includes a fiber scope 20, a video module 30 and an endoscope processor 40. The video module 30 has an image pickup element 31. The image pickup element 31 receives an image acquired by the fiber scope 20 and generates an image signal. The endoscope processor 40 includes a light source unit 50, a light receiving region extract part 60 and a system controller 43. The light receiving region extract part 60 discriminates a light receiving region based on an image signal generated at the initialization of white balance. During the normal observation, the light receiving region extract part 60 extracts a luminance signal component in a position discriminated to be a light receiving region in the image signal, and equalizes the same. The system controller 43 causes the light source unit 50 to perform the dimming processing based on the equalized luminance signal component. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
