Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably convey paper sheets with a difference in conveying speed between two conveyor roller pairs, suppressing not to exceed a predetermined difference in conveying speed by a simple method with no load on a roller driving means. SOLUTION: A roller member 104 is disposed between an upstream conveyor roller pair 100 and a downstream conveyor roller pair 101. The upstream roller conveying speed is detected by the rotating speed of the roller member 104 during conveyance of a paper sheet only with the upstream conveyor roller pair 100, and the downstream roller conveying speed is detected by the rotating speed of the roller member 104 during conveyance of the paper sheet only with the downstream conveyor roller pair 102. When the difference in conveying speed is more than the predetermined value, the drive conditions of a downstream roller driving means are calculated so that the downstream roller conveying speed may be changed, and the drive conditions of the downstream roller driving means calculated are then changed after the drive stop of the downstream roller driving means.
