PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device having a control system of an ICPU constitution capable of continuing control maximally long and safe, when the control system can be normally controlled. SOLUTION: A ROM 102 is divided into two areas, and the assist control function (one side is the simple assist control function) is mounted on both the first and second ROM areas. A ROM abnormality detecting program, a RAM abnormality detecting program and a WDT program are also mounted on both the first and second ROM areas. A CPU performs ordinary steering control by performing an ordinary assist control program stored in the first ROM area in starting, and when performing this ordinary steering control, when ROM abnormality, RAM abnormality and WDT abnormality are detected, simple assist control is performed by switching to a simple assist control program stored in the second ROM area, and when performing this simple assist control, until the ROM abnormality, the RAM abnormality and the WDT abnormality are detected, the simple assist control is continued.
