Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing fluid from the intestinal tract of a host, and a method for treating fluid overload states. SOLUTION: The method for removing fluid from the intestinal tract of the host includes directly introducing an effective amount of a water-absorbing polymer into the intestinal tract. Further, there is provided a composition for removing fluid from the intestinal tract of the host, including the water-absorbing polymer which can absorb the normal saline solution at least 10 times the mass thereof and is enterically coated, impermeable and non-toxic.
