Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for preventing image failure, that occurs under a high temperature and high humidity environment, even when being used for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has: an image carrier which can be rotated; a first charging means for charging the image carrier by application of voltage of a predetermined polarity; a toner image forming means for forming a toner image based on the electrostatic latent image formed by exposing the charged surface that is charged by the first charging means; and a second charging means which can discharge toward the image carrier by having the voltage applied. In this case, the image forming apparatus has a control section for stopping the action for charging the image carrier by the first charging means and executing an action for rotating the image carrier in a state of having the voltage that is a voltage value for generating the discharge and is the reverse polarity as the polarity above applied to the second charging means.
