SOLUTION: A portable navigation apparatus includes: a GPS signal receiving section (S01) for receiving a GPS radio signal; a first current position determining section (S02) for determining a first current position based on the GPS signal; an orientation detecting section (S09) for detecting a movement orientation; a movement distance detecting section (S10) for detecting a movement distance; a second current position determining section (S11) for determining a second current position based on a reference position, the movement orientation and the movement distance; a state detecting section (S16) for detecting the state around the apparatus; and a reference setting section (S18) for setting the reference position based on the detected state and the first current position (NO in S17).
