Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-pickup apparatus where an evaluation value is correctly acquired at the acquisition target position of a contrast evaluation value, and deterioration in precision and an increase in autofocus time caused by the skip of a focal position are suppressed. SOLUTION: In the lens exchange type image-pickup apparatus having a focus detecting means detecting the focal position of an object by a contrast evaluation value, the apparatus comprises: acquisition means (S402, S403, S407) where at least one out of a drivable defocus amount and a driving speed regarding the focal position of an exchange lens is acquired from the exchange lens; and changing means (S410, S411, S412) where, based on at least one among the drivable defocus amount, drive speed and charge storage intervals in an image-pickup means for acquiring a signal used for focus detection, a lens drive system upon focus detection is changed.
