Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation film in which the controllability of a retardation is remarkably improved, and further, the wavelength dependency of the retardation is sufficiently controlled, and which attains a highly widened view angle on a high level when adopted to a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: A structure simultaneously having both of a structural birefringence and a molecule oriented birefringence is used as a retardation film. Concretely, the structure includes a repeated multilayer structure (13) having at least two layers (11, 12) with the different average refractive indexes as structural units, at least one of layer thereof is a layer (a) with negative optical anisotropy, and also, at least one of the other layer is an optically almost isotropic layer (i). In this case, the layer (a) is composed of a polystyrene based resin, and also, the layer (i) is composed of a polymer blend and/or a block copolymer of an acrylic resin and an aliphatic polyester based resin.
