Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of oscillating a die for continuous casting where indexes predicting the oscillation mark depth of the steel slab to be cast are newly set, and the oscillating conditions of a die are set on the basis of the indexes, thus, even when the oscillation waveform of the die is any of a sine waveform or a biased sine waveform, the oscillation mark depth of the slab can be made shallow within a range where surface defects are not caused. SOLUTION: When the die is oscillated in the sine waveform or the biased sine waveform, and a steel is continuously cast, the oscillating conditions of the die are set, provided that the negative strip distance of the die oscillation is defined as NSL, negative strip time is defined as tn, and positive strip time is defined as tp, in such a manner that a characteristic value Z decided by formula (1): Z=NSLA×(tp/2+tn)0.5with the NSL, tn, and tp reaches the value at which, experientially, problems are not caused in the surface quality of the slab or below.
