Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the occupied width of a machining center in the direction of an X-axis (crosswise direction). SOLUTION: Since an optional position of a workpiece is positioned just below a tool for machining by rotation of a turntable 12 in the direction of a C-axis and travel of a main spindle 11 in the directions of a Y-axis and a Z-axis, the occupied width of a device body 10 in the X-axis is reduced in comparison with the case where the turntable 12 is moved in the direction of the X-axis for machining. All the rotary central axes of a main spindle 11, the turntable 12, and a tool magazine 53 are parallel with the Z-axis, and all of these rotary central axes and a tool exchange position are arranged on a Y-Z plane. This arrangement makes a tool exchange operation possible and reduces the occupied width of the machining center 1 in the direction of the X-axis. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
