Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the surface properties of the slab to be subjected to continuous casting, and further, to reduce bubbles and inclusions included in the slab. SOLUTION: The continuous casting apparatus 1 includes: a die 2 provided with a pair of long side walls and a pair of short side walls; an immersion nozzle 4 discharging molten steel 3 to the inside of the die 3; and electromagnetic stirring devices 5 arranged along the pair of long side walls and stirring the molten steel 3 in the die 2. The electromagnetic stirring devices 5 are arranged in such a manner that, in the position of the meniscus 10 of the molten steel 3, electromagnetic force 24 acting on the molten steel 3 turns to the inward direction of the die, and also, upward stirring flows are formed in the surfaces of the long side walls of the die 2.
