Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fast perform additional function processing and routing processing due to function extension modules and to scalably extend functions by packaging one or more function extension modules. SOLUTION: A function execution module 61 for executing an extension function is connected to a high-speed routing module 32, that is also capable of performing routing processing due to hardware, thereby configuring a function extension module 6. Thus, even if a packet having new address information is generated by processing packet data using the function execution module 62, high-speed property of routing processing for selecting a new routing destination of the packet and transferring the packet is maintained by the routing module 32 being connected and a plurality of function execution modules 62 are connected, thereby enabling function extension due to the scalable function extension module. Furthermore, a plurality of function execution modules 62 for different functions are packaged, thereby also integrating a plurality of functions into one internetworking apparatus.
