Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attemperation apparatus and a method for cooling the steam bypassed from a steam turbine 22 during the tripping of the steam turbine 22. SOLUTION: The apparatus is configured to deliver the water discharged from a fuel gas heater 82 to a bypass attemperator 72, where the water discharged from the fuel gas heater 82 is used to cool the bypass steam. Before being used with the fuel gas heater 82, the water used to heat the fuel gas is heated with an economizer 44. The water is delivered to the economizer 44 by the intermediate pressure stage 74 of a boiler feedwater pump 76. The intermediate pressure stage 74 of the boiler feedwater pump 76 is used to supply water to a re-heater attemperator 62, which is used to further cool the steam after being delivered from the bypass attemperator 72 to a re-heater 58. In addition, the intermediate pressure stage 74 of the boiler feedwater pump 76 may deliver water directly to the bypass attemperator 72. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
