Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of recovering solid sulfur component by treating a basic aqueous solution containing a polysulfide ion generated in treating hydrogen sulfide from a petroleum refinery, etc. SOLUTION: The method for removing the polysulfide ion by treating the basic aqueous solution containing the polysulfide ion includes converting the polysulfide ion into elemental sulfur by bringing the basic aqueous solution containing the polysulfide ion into contact with a carbon cluster solution and separating the carbon cluster solution from the treated aqueous solution containing the elemental sulfur, or, alternatively, forming a suspending solution of the carbon cluster by dispersing the carbon cluster into the basic aqueous solution containing the polysulfide ion while converting the polysulfide ion into the elemental sulfur, and solid-liquid separating the suspending solution.
