PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to perform a call while viewing a television (TV) broadcast program even in viewing the TV broadcast program, and to reduce trouble in operation for the call. SOLUTION: A processor 12 selectively sets a TV broadcast viewing function mode or a video phone function mode in response to the operation of a remote control 7. In a TV program viewing function mode, a decoder 11 is operated by a decoding function for a program, and decodes a received broadcast program signal from a broadcast tuner 10 to display a broadcast program by a display screen 2 and a speaker 3. In the TV broadcast program viewing function mode, the decoder 11 performs the operation of a decoding function for a video phone, a video phone signal from a counterpart side which is received by a network interface 15 is decoded by the decoder 11, and displayed by the display screen 2 and the speaker 3 on the counterpart side. An encoder 18 is operated by an encoding function for a video phone to encode a video signal from a camera 4 and an audio signal from a microphone 2 to form a video phone signal to be transmitted to the counterpart side from a network 18.
