PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for purifying a hot metal, which increases the cleanliness of the hot metal and keeps a quantity of hydrogen gas low by applying degassing treatment or slag-removing treatment to the hot metal, and also lowers the possibility of pumping up the formed slag with a ladle and the like. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for purifying the hot metal to be used in a pumping chamber 4 (holding chamber) which holds the hot metal Y includes: a cylinder section 10 for treatment which is provided with an aperture 13 (inlet hole) for making the hot metal Y flow into the inner part and an outlet hole 15 for making the hot metal Y flow out to the outside, and is arranged in the pumping chamber 4; and a refining device 20 for applying at least one of the degassing treatment and the slag-removing treatment to the hot metal Y in the cylinder section 10 for the treatment.
