PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document reading apparatus capable of suppressing the generation of image blur, color tone irregularities or the like due to defocusing caused by separation of a document from a document glass plate, and to provide an image forming apparatus including the automatic document reading apparatus. SOLUTION: The automatic document reading apparatus includes, a document carrying path 121 for carrying a document, an image reading means for reading out an image of the document from one side of the document carrying path 121 through a reading glass 901, and a document guide 123 for guiding the document from the other side, wherein the document guide 123 is arranged so as to be freely separated/approached from/to the reading glass 901, a spacer 124 for regulating a distance between the document guide 123 and the reading glass 901 is formed, at least a part of the spacer 124 is composed of a magnet, and both-side members forming the document carrying path 121 are held at a fixed interval by the magnetic force of the spacer 124.
