PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet substance that is produced with almost no degeneration of a protein contained in seashell having a pearl and a pearl layer, a method for producing the same and a skin care preparation using the sheet substance. SOLUTION: The sheet substance is produced by deashing a pearl layer-containing seashell, pearl fragment or a pearl layer-containing seashell fragment by using an ethylenediaminetetraacetate. The method for producing the sheet substance comprises (1) a process of dispersing a pearl layer-containing seashell, a pearl fragment or a pearl layer-containing seashell fragment into water, (2) a process of adding an ethylenediaminetetraacetate in an equimolar or more amount based on a calcium ion contained in the dispersed seashell or fragment and (3) a process of stirring under a condition wherein a formed sheet substance is not mutually strongly brought into contact with the fragment.
