Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-speed Ethernet(R) by collecting optical physical layer and LAN technologies. SOLUTION: A high-speed Ethernet using Thin SONET technologies as a physical layer carrier uses the large embedded base of SONET equipment to integrate WANs, MANs and LANs. The HS Ethernet(R) also takes advantage of current SONET functionality, such as framing, scrambling, integrity, etc. FEC fields are provided in the transport overhead (TOH) for achieving a high-level error correction. The HS Ethernet frame includes a length-type field generated at the PCS sublayer and an HEC field generated at the PMA layer. The frames are routed within a network using a source address, a destination address and a label. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
