Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel organic compound which is hardly eluted into an organic solvent such as an electrolytic solution, etc., of a secondary battery, can be reversibly subjected to oxidation-reduction reaction, and is stable even in an oxidation state or a reduction state. SOLUTION: The novel organic compound is a polymer having a structure represented by general formula (1) wherein Ph is a phenyl group; X is an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a selenium atom, or a tellurium atom; and R1 and R2 are each independently a linear saturated hydrocarbon group, a linear unsaturated hydrocarbon group, a cyclic saturated hydrocarbon group, a cyclic unsaturated hydrocarbon group, a phenyl group, a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, an amino group, a nitro group, or a nitroso group. Each of the linear saturated hydrocarbon group, the linear unsaturated hydrocarbon group, the cyclic saturated hydrocarbon group, and the cyclic unsaturated hydrocarbon group includes at least one kind of atom selected from the group consisting of a carbon atom, an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom, a sulfur atom, and a silicon atom.
