Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress application of a reverse voltage to a plurality of light-emitting diodes connected in series and a defect in light emission of the light-emitting diodes accompanying the application. SOLUTION: An illumination system includes an illumination device 10 having a plurality of blue LEDs connected in series, a first protective diode 91 and a second protective diode 92 connected to both ends of the illumination device 10 respectively, a first protective capacitor 93 having one end connected to the cathode of the first protective diode 91 and the other end grounded, a second protective capacitor 94 having one end connected to the anode of the second protective diode 92 and the other end grounded, a diode bridge circuit 35 rectifying an alternating current supplied by a first feeder 21 and a second feeder 22 into a direct current, a smoothing capacitor 36 having one end connected to the anode of the first protective diode 91 and the other connected to the cathode of the second protective diode 92, and a switch 40 electrically connecting and disconnecting the second feeder 22.
