Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ultraviolet ray- and infrared ray-absorbing synthetic silica glass which has reduced light transmittance in the ultraviolet region and infrared region without incorporation of a metal impurity into the glass and has high transmittance in the visible light region, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The ultraviolet ray- and infrared ray-absorbing synthetic silica glass is characterized in that the total concentration of metal impurities is ≤1 ppm, the oxygen-deficient defect amount at a wavelength of 250 nm is 0.1-2/cm in terms of absorption coefficient, the internal transmittance of light having a wavelength of ≤250 nm is 0-80 %/cm, the internal transmittance of light having a wavelength of 500-1,100 nm is 50-92%/cm, and the internal transmittance of light having a wavelength of ≥1,500 nm is 0-85 %/cm.
