Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a still picture of high spatial resolution with improved simultaneity of accumulation while suppressing a decrease in frame rate. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus captures moving pictures and still pictures. When it performs still picture shooting in parallel to video shooting in a pixel arrangement for performing signal accumulation operation for a first group of accumulation periods where at least a part of a plurality of pixels overlap adjacent two lines, it reads first signals from an entire first group of pixels within a first frame period, reads second signals to be signals accumulated in the first group of accumulation periods from a part of the pixels different from one another in a second group of pixels, synthesizes the first signals with the second signals, and generates an image signal for a still picture of one frame.
