Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film type of photovoltaic element capable of manufacturing a solar cell module with a grid type module structure. SOLUTION: A photovoltaic element 10 for generating power by receiving light is provided with: a substrate 1 comprising an insulating material; a back-face electrode layer 2 formed on the substrate 1; a power generation layer 3 formed on the back-face electrode layer 2; a transparent electrode layer 4 formed on the power generation layer 3; and a metallic collector electrode 5 formed on the transparent electrode layer 4. The collector electrode 5 has a plurality of finger parts for collecting electrons from the transparent electrode layer 4 and a bus bar part for further collecting the electrons collected by the finger parts. The photovoltaic element 10 is characterized by being provided with a short-circuit prevention layer 6 comprising an insulating material having electrical resistance higher than the electrical resistance of the collector electrode 5 between the bus bar part and the transparent electrode layer 4.
